LIGHT & SPACE

Final Piece

The light and space journey was the first theme I explored when starting A-levels. There were so many different approaches and I was unsure as to which path I wanted to go down. As I had an interest in architecture, I questioned myself into thinking how the theme; 'light and space' and architecture connected with each other. I saw how architecture is about looking at the spacial environment and surroundings and how much space is used or how LITTLE space is used. In my sketchbook from the first year, I have also resarched how light is essential to life and although it is an intangiable substance it's pathway can still be controlled. I was fascingated by the . movement of light when the natural sunlight shifted throughout the day and impacted movement on buildings. A building that related to space and light movement was ____  which reminded my of an origami piece.

I began exploring an origami piece that involved movement of shadow when lights shifted, this was the paper tesellated surface. This paper folding system was created by a japanese physicist who invented a satellite system in space which can compress and expended, yet it's shape can remain the same.

As a result, I decided to create a hanging tesselated installment with light shining above it and a demonstration of shadow moving when light hits the surface.
